How to find leads on Reddit

The best Reddit leads are not people who already know your brand name. They are people who describe an annoying problem in their own words and ask what tool or workflow to use. This guide walks through how to find those threads, tell a real buyer from noise, and write a reply that earns the click.

Look for questions and complaints, not category buzzwords

A buyer almost never types your pitch-deck category into Reddit. Nobody wakes up and searches for 'synergistic revenue intelligence platform'. They write what went wrong this morning: 'how do I stop losing track of follow-ups', 'is there a simpler alternative to X', or 'what are you using to monitor cron jobs'.

Write down five sentences a customer says the day before they sign up for your product. Those sentences, stripped of jargon, are your best search queries.

  • 'What do you use for...' or 'Best tool for...'
  • 'Alternative to [incumbent]' or 'Switching from [incumbent]'
  • 'How are you handling [pain]' on a small team
  • 'Is there any way to [task] without [annoying requirement]'

Filter by recency and activity

Replying to a two-year-old thread is mostly for future search visitors; the original author has moved on. When you want a conversation with a live buyer today, filter for posts from the last 7 to 30 days that are still unlocked.

Check two numbers before you invest ten minutes writing: how old the post is, and how many comments are already there. A fresh post with three to twenty comments is the sweet spot where the author is still reading every notification.

Separate real buyer intent from rants and news

Half of the posts that match a keyword on Reddit are people venting, sharing a news article, or showing off their own weekend project. Answering those as if they were shopping makes you look like a bot.

A thread is a genuine lead when the author has a decision to make and is asking the community to help them make it:

  • They ask for a tool, a service or a concrete way to do a job.
  • They mention constraints: team size, budget, tech stack or deadline.
  • They name what they already tried and why it did not stick.
  • The thread is a question, not a victory lap or a hiring post.

Read the existing comments before you type

Opening a thread and immediately pasting a pre-written pitch is the fastest way to get downvoted. Read the top five comments first. See which tools have already been named, what the author replied to them, and what angle nobody has covered yet.

When your reply acknowledges the constraints mentioned in the thread ('since you mentioned you are on a 3-person team and self-hosting...'), readers immediately see a human who read the post.

Answer the person first, respect the rule second

Write the reply you would want to receive if you had posted the question. Give a clear, useful answer that works even if the reader never clicks your profile. Then, if your product genuinely fits and the subreddit's promotion rule allows it, mention or link it cleanly without asking anyone to DM you.

If doing the search, sorting and first draft by hand takes too much of your week, Relead automates the discovery and drafting from your URL while leaving the final review and click to you.

If the author asked a question, it is a lead. If the author made a statement, it is a post.

Take it with you

  • Search for the sentence a frustrated buyer types, not your marketing category.
  • Use Reddit search operators and time filters so you never answer a dead thread.
  • Keep threads that ask for a recommendation, an alternative or a workflow fix.
  • Read the top comments before writing so your reply adds something new.
  • Match your reply to the subreddit's promotion rule: link, mention, or plain help.

Questions, answered

How do I find leads on Reddit without spending hours searching?

Focus on question phrases ('alternative to', 'what do you use for') filtered to the last 30 days in five to ten target subreddits, or let Relead read your site and surface scored buyer threads twice a day.

How many Reddit threads should I answer per week?

Five to ten thoughtful, specific answers a week beat fifty copy-paste comments every time. Quality and rule compliance decide whether your comment stays up and earns clicks.

Should I ask people to DM me in my reply?

No. 'DM me' is one of the strongest spam signals for both Reddit moderators and readers. Put the helpful answer right in the public thread.

Can a tool do the searching and first draft for me?

Yes. Relead reads your URL, finds real buyer threads on Reddit, checks each subreddit's promotion rule, and writes a reply you can copy and post. The preview is free.

Theory is nice. Real threads pay.

Skip the homework. Paste your site and read a plan built from live Reddit threads.
